The chapel was crafted firstly in the sixteenth century, in honour of the Roman martyr who safeguarded the inhabitants from epidemics and calamities. In 2002 the town Council granted the gold defend of the municipality on the Virgin, in commemoration of the V Centennial of Villafranca de las Marismas.
